History of St. Louis Improv

Saint Louis Improv Dot Com started in February 2002 when the very first Improv Festival was produced in St. Louis. This first event used three performance locations around the metropolitan area. The main stage show featured the Women of Second City and was performed at COCA in University City. Other performances featured cast members of St. Louis' first Longform improvisation troupe, Pravda: Paul Imboden, Mike Worthington and Brian Campbell. Brand new improv show formats included How We First Met, created by Jill Bourque and performed by Paper Slip Theatre, Inc. Workshops were lead by Bassprov's Mark Sutton and Joe Bill of the Annoyance Theater in Chicago. The Festival was a huge success drawing in some 2500 people to see improv over a period of 3 days. The second St. Louis Improv Festival was produced in late May 2003 and also became a first in many ways for St. Louis. For the first time St. Louis saw solo improvisation performed by Andy Eninger. The Louisville Improvisers quick style of improv entertained the crowds at COCA in University City. The Festival showcased the brilliant work of Chicago's Bassprov.

St. Louis Improv Dot Com is constantly interviewing individuals who are a part of the St. Louis improv and sketch comedy history. From the days of The Network in 1989 to the Nonprophets in 2003, St. Louis has so much comedy to watch. The information is documented and will soon be published.

Many of the Whose Who? of local improv are being intereviewed. The interviews have been helpful in providing the rich history on this portal. Those interviewed include: Paul Sills of The Compass Players, The Second City and Story Theater; Bill Chott of Chicago's Second City and ImprovOlympics West.
